Louise Cheatham Cooper (Lisa), of Statesville, passed away, March 13, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House.
Lisa was born on July 9, 1953 in Raleigh, NC to her parents William Thomas Cheatham, IV and Lula Sturges Cheatham of Statesville. Lisa did her undergraduate studies at UNC-Charlotte and went on to earn her master’s degree in Criminal Justice at the university of South Carolina. She went on to become a sworn officer in South Carolina and after many years went on to teach Criminal Justice at Mitchell Community College for 15 years.
Lisa was presented at the North Carolina Terpsichorean Club Debutante Ball and was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America. She enjoyed music, reading, spending time with family, trips to the beach, animals and Gamecock football.
In addition to her parents, Lisa is survived by her husband of 32 years, Michael Alan Cooper and their daughter, Brittany-Ann Terrell Cooper. Her stepchildren, Mary Cooper Chandler (Jamie) and Michael Thomas Cooper (Tracy) and her granddaughter, Rue Ann Elizabeth Cooper. She is also survived by her siblings, Holt Cheatham, William Thomas Cheatham V and Margaret Cheatham Johnson (Tink), as well as nieces, Marianne Rogowski Yeckley (James)m Catherine Reynolds Cheatham-White (Buddy), her nephews, Walter William Rogowski (Erika and daughter, Isabella), Tink Aston Johnson and Ellison Capers Johnson.
The family will hold a memorial service 2:00 pm Monday, March 18, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Church. The family will speak with friends from 1:00-2:00pm before the service. The family asks that in honor of Lisa’s wishes that black not be worn but rather bright colors as we celebrate her life.
