Lewis "John" Clayton Burt

October 1, 1946 - August 4, 2017 Mr. Lewis "John" Clayton Burt, 70, died peacefully at CMC-Pineville on Friday, August 4, 2017. John is survived by his children Terrence Burt and Misty Hughes; step-children Tracy Whitman, DeNese McGinnis and Daniel Thain; grandchildren Clayton Burt, Dakota Burt, Brooklyn Burt, Lyla Rae Burt, Kevin Henry, Kimberly Wilson, Kara Wilson, Austen Thain, Avery Thain, Megan Swan, Marissa Stevens and King Whitman; and great granddaughter Leighton Burt, Natalie Bassetti and Olivia Bassetti. He is preceded in death by father William Burt, mother Catherine Burt Tipton; siblings Duane Burt, Randal Burt and Sandra McAllister; and wife Margie Sue "Susie" Wright-Burt. John was born October 1, 1946 in Anniston, AL and graduated from Alexandria High School. After moving to Long Beach, CA he began work at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation at the age of 20 manufacturing commercial aircraft. After 33 years, he retired in 1999 from Boeing Corporation, which acquired McDonnell Douglas in 1997. John was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and husband, a friend to many, and an avid fan of all sports, particularly Alabama football. A celebration of life is scheduled for Friday, August 11th at 3:30 p.m. at Troutman Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made in John’s name to the American Cancer Society.
