Leonard Davis Plyler

Leonard Davis Plyler, 80, of Statesville, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Gordon Hospice House. He was born on December 9, 1931 in Iredell County to the late Nellre and Alvah Plyler. Mr. Plyler served our country honorably in the U. S. Air Force and was also a private pilot and farmer. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; three sons, Leonard Dean (Mary), Roger (Maleia) and Lonnie (special friend Amanda Shoemaker) Plyler, all of Statesville; a daughter, Connie (James) Cook of Statesville; and four grandchildren, Mitchell, Morgan, Caroline and Lizzie Cook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edith, and three brothers, Gilbert, Harry and Max Plyler. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2012 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Statesville. Funeral services with full military rites provided by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Matthew Emory and Chaplain Daniel Swan officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Melvin Tucker, Walter Plyler, Carroll Plyler, Ashley Plyler, Jeremy Plyler and Wayne Plyler. The family would like to extend their special thanks to Community Hospice of Iredell County, Gordon Hospice House, Skilled Nursing of Iredell Memorial Hospital, 4 North of Iredell Memorial Hospital and Dr. James Foushee for all the loving care and kindness they gave to Mr. Plyler.
