Lawence Sabert (Buddy) Holton, 92, of Statesville, passed away on July 15th, 2026, at Autumn Care Nursing Home of natural causes as the result of a lengthy debilitating illness.
Mr. Holton was born on February 6,1934, in Salisbury, NC, to Lawrence Silverow Younger and Christine Johnston Younger. Lawrence Younger was killed in an automobile accident in Statesville in 1937. His mother was married in1942 to Hugh L. Holton of Statesville who adopted him.
Mr. Holton was a veteran of the North Carolina National Guard and the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and after basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC, was assigned to service at Ft. Hood, TX, Ft. Rucker, AL, and Ft. Sill, OK. He was employed at the JC Penny warehouse for some years and was also a driver for the Standard Trucking Company before starting his own private express delivery service.
Mr. Holton was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh L. and Christine Y. Holton. He is survived by a daughter, Lisa M. Owen of Rosman, NC, one grandson, Johnathan Owen of Rosman, NC, one brother, William “Mickey” Holton of Nashville, TN, one nephew, James V. Holton (Jennifer) of Murfreesboro, TN, two great-nephews, Liam and Calvin Holton, and several cousins.
Troutman Funeral Home is providing cremation services. A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Autumn Care Nursing Home of Statesville and Hospice for their excellent nursing and care of Mr. Holton during his stay there.
