Kenard Morgan Murdock, 92, of Troutman, passed away peacefully at Gordon Hospice House surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 23, 2018.
Kenard was born in Troutman on October 19, 1925 to the late John Carl and Mamie Wallace Murdock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, Hubert, Harry, Roger, JC, Paul, Hal, Grady, and Russell Murdock.
Kenard was a United States Army Veteran who served in the Korean War. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. His work was his passion. He especially enjoyed woodworking, gardening and cutting firewood. He will always be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Those left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 61 years, Julia Winecoff Murdock; son, Pat (Melanie) Murdock; daughter; Phoebe (Scott) Heath; brother, Sheldon (Doris) Murdock; sister in laws, Frances Murdock, Alma Murdock, Glenda Murdock and Pat Dison; grandchildren, Lauren (Andrew) Brown, Paul (Jennifer) Murdock, Brad (Darsee) Heath, Travis Heath, and great-grandchildren, Haley and Austin Murdock, and Ben and Mackenzie Brown, all of whom will miss him dearly.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Troutman Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Dieter Punt officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at St. Michael’s Cemetery with full military rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail.
Pallbearers will be Paul Murdock, Brent Murdock, Dennis Murdock, Josh Murdock, Andrew Brown, Brad Heath, Gary Pennell, and Travis Heath.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to the donor’s choice.
