Kay Frances Sherrill Houston, 69, of Statesville, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at her residence. Mrs. Houston was born November 5, 1940, in Iredell County, daughter of Myrtle Byers Sherrill of Statesville and the late Harold Hunter Sherrill. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Alvin Henry Sherrill. She worked for Iredell-Statesville Schools for 29 years as a teacher’s assistant at Monticello, Celeste Henkel, N.B. Mills and A. D. Rutherford. She loved to read and treasured her children, grandchildren and her great granddaughter. She is survived by her husband, Richard Edward Houston, Sr. of Statesville; a son, Richard Edward Houston, Jr. of Danielsville, GA; a daughter, Angela Houston (Bryan) Hoover of Statesville; a sister, Marie Sherrill (Bill) Holman of Statesville; a sister-in-law, Nancy Sherrill of Statesville; three grandchildren, Ashley and Patrick Hoover and Sydney Houston; and one great grandchild, Rylee Lynch. A visitation will be held at Troutman Funeral Home on Friday, September 3, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. A service celebrating the life of Kay Houston will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Tom Corbell and Vicar Diane Bowker officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Iredell Memorial Park. At other times, the family will assemble at the home of Bryan and Angela Hoover, 3108 Amity Hill Rd., Statesville, NC. Active pallbearers will be Billy Holman, Jr., Jerry Houston, Gary Scott, Rick Blackburn, Mike Sherrill, Ronnie Houston and Cole Sherrill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625. The family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County for their compassionate care.
