Mrs. June Carol Sharpe McCoy, 79, of Statesville passed away on July 5, 2025, at Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville.
Born in Iredell County, in the Sandy Springs Community of Harmony, N. C., on July 16, 1945, June was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Hattie Shore Sharpe. On February 14, 1964, she married John William (Johnny) McCoy, and the couple had one son, John William (Jay) McCoy, Jr.
Beginning in the mid-1970s, June worked at Hunt Manufacturing where she met and made lifelong friends including co-workers Teresa and Deward Huie, Susan Alexander and Renee Tevepaugh. When Hunt closed in early 2000, June joined the team at Acuma until she retired. In retirement she filled her days with reading, tending to her flowers, enjoying lunch with friends and caring for her fur babies.
June’s warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her, extending far beyond her family and workplace. She cherished her friendships, some of which dated back to her time at Harmony High School. It was there that she met lifelong friends, the late Louise Smith Galliher and her husband James with whom she and Johnny made many memories. June also enjoyed the friendships she established as a member of the loving and supportive church family at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Her contagious laugh and quick smile will be remembered by many.
A joy in June’s life was the special bond she shared with her nieces through the years: Anita Miller, Angie Wooten, Amy Kestler, Donna Moore, Dana Sharpe, and Catrina and Cazwyn Renegar. Most recently, their support for their Aunt June far surpassed expectations when they provided around-the-clock loving care during her serious health challenges.
June was preceded in death by her son, Jay McCoy; sister, Joann Koontz; brothers, Thomas, Harold, Donald, and HW Sharpe, Jr; and sister-in-law, Sandy McCoy Van Hoy. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a dear brother, Roger Sharpe, sisters-in-law, Ruby and Marie Sharpe, and many special nieces and nephews. Also surviving from the McCoy family are sisters-in-law Linda Stikeleather (John), Judy Kennedy (Max) and brother-in-law Albert Van Hoy, as well several nieces, nephews and their families.
The family appreciates friends, neighbors, Pastor Brown, their church family, Richard and Marilyn Cimbriez and the staff of Mitchell Mack Hospice House, Mooresville for their loving care and support during this time.
The Reverand Garrett Brown will conduct services celebrating June’s life on Saturday, July 12 at 11:00am at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00am. Burial will be at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the Jay McCoy Scholarship Fund, c/o Providence Methodist Church, 1273 Old Mocksville Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Troutman Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. McCoy.
