Oct. 20, 1926 - March 2, 2016 Mrs. Juell Bass Carrigan, 89, of Troutman, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. She was born October 20, 1926 to the late Irene Lipe Bass and W. Franklin Bass. She graduated from Troutman High School and was married to the love of her life, Kelly "Bud" Eugene Carrigan, for 68 years. She worked in textiles for many years before retiring. Juell was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. A family tradition was established of having lunch on Sundays at "Maw & Paw’s" and has continued for many years. She took great pride in rocking the little ones to sleep. Juell also loved the outdoors and working in her yard. She was an active member of Ostwalt Baptist Church until her health declined over the past year. Together, she and her husband worked with the NC Baptist Men on missions in the Philippines, Peru, Venezuela, and other areas. They also helped with Disaster Relief with great satisfaction of helping others. She enjoyed leisure travel with her favorite destination being Australia. She is survived by her husband, Kelly, of Troutman; daughters, Judy Douglas (Special Friend, Reginald Brown) and Penny (Tommy) McCullen, both of Troutman; grandchildren, Joel (Sheree) Douglas, Ryan (Crystal) Douglas, Kelli Douglas, and Steve Carrigan; great-grandchildren, Brittany Hattier of Michigan and Chandler and Maddie Douglas of Statesville, Mary-Ryan and David Douglas of Troutman, and Kaylee Vice of Denver; two great-great grandchildren; and sister, Lillian B. Mayhew of Troutman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Eugene "Pebo" Carrigan; sisters, Betty B. Overcash, Elenora "Sis" Mayhew; brothers, Cletus, Toot, and Lewis Bass, Ross Nesbit, Verna Smith, and Viola Funderburk. The family will receive friends from 10 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5th at Ostwalt Baptist Church in Troutman. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Wesley Morris officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Ostwalt Baptist Church, 198 Ostwalt Amity Road, Troutman, NC 28166.
