Our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Joycelyn Campbell Walden went to her heavenly home Thursday, August 8, 2019 after battling Alzheimer’s for many years. She was born December 19, 1929 in Iredell County to the late James D. Campbell and Edith Shaver Campbell. She was a graduate of Troutman High School. In 1946, she married Terry M. Walden. They had 39 years together before his passing in 1986. Mrs. Walden was a member of Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church. She participated in weekly activities and the Ladies’ Circle Group. She was a member of the Metrolina Charter 1173 of the American Business Women for 29 years. She was a counselor and advisor for the Oddfellows, Theta Rho Young Women’s group also remembering her close friend, the late Mary Ellen Cline and Rebecca young women’s group.
Mrs. Walden worked at A.L. Shaver and Sons in the family’s chair business. After retirement, she enjoyed working at Johnson Greenhouse. Her hobbies included feeding and watching the birds, tending to her flowers, and making her yard beautiful.
She is survived by 4 children; Jan W. Troutman (Sam), Darrell C. Walden (Kim), Britt Walden, Robin Walden (Trent) and a daughter-in-law Pam Walden all of Statesville; 4 grandchildren, Steve Carrigan, Bradley Walden (Deeanne), Chase Walden (Ashlyn) and Lauren Morton (Erick); 5 great grandsons, Blaine Walden, Cole Walden, Liam Walden, Alex Walden, Mason Rhyne and Barrett (Barry) Walden due in a few weeks, one sister Alison Sowers of Statesville, sisters-in-law; Doris Walden, Peggy Campbell and Marion Beshears; and a close friend of the family, Marsha Johnston
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by one brother Carol (Tip) Campbell, one sister Noel Campbell and a son Barry Walden.
Her celebration of life funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 11 at Troutman Funeral Home in Troutman, NC, with the Reverend Robert Garrett officiating. Visitation will be from 2:30-4:00 before the service. Burial will be on Tuesday, August 13, at 10:30 am at Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Our family would like to thank all Mom’s caregivers at Brookdale Memory Care and Carillion Assisted Living of Mooresville for their love, care and kindness as she battled this very debilitating disease, also a special thanks to her special friend and caregiver while still at home, Jennifer Williams.
