Joyce Victoria (Deal) Summers

Joyce Victoria Deal Summers, 84, of Statesville, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, at the home of her daughter. Joyce was born in Statesville on October 26,1939 to her parents, George Leonidas and Eulalia Viola Alexander Deal.

Joyce lived in the Cool Spring area most of her life. She attended Cool Spring School and worked in manufacturing, retiring from Hunt Manufacturing in 2003 when it closed its doors in Statesville.  Until being hindered by dementia she attended Crestview Baptist Church where she was their pianist.

Those left to cherish her memory are one son, Leonidas “Lee” Head (Diane) of Wilson NC, and three daughters; Glenda Benge (Larry), Robin Walker both of Statesville, and Cara Call of Hiddenite, one sister-in-law, Loretta Deal. Her grandchildren, Jason Benge (Christin), Emily Adkins (Kevin), Caitlyn Gordon (Thomas), Michael Head, Samantha Walker (Michael) and Seth Walker, and Bryon and Adam Call. 14 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Her husband of 32 years, Robert Summers, preceded her in death along with her parents and four brothers; Troy, Hoyt, Wayne and William” Bill” Deal and three sisters, Mae Swicegood, Lois Baity, and Martha Ferriera.

The family would like to thank her Hospice care givers Laura RN, Ashley CNA and Renee' Social Worker for their excellent and loving care given to our mother and our family during the last 11months.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the chapel of Troutman Funeral Home at 2:00pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 with Rev. Eddie Graham and Rev. Mike Burchette officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00pm. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
