Johnny Dwight "Buck" Jolly Sr., 83, died at Gordon Hospice on Friday, March 16, 2018 following a period of declining health.
Buck was born on April 4, 1934 in the Snow Creek community of Iredell County and was the son of the late Charles Edward and Ila Goodin Jolly. He attended Statesville City Schools, and was for many years a self-employed plumbing contractor.
Buck often volunteered his time and skill to help relatives and neighbors with carpentry or plumbing projects at their homes, and he also liked working in his garden and sharing the produce with acquaintances.
Survivors include Buck’s wife, Peggy Poole Jolly, his son, John Jolly, both of Troutman; his granddaughter, Megan Jolly and great-granddaughter, Aubrey Jolly, both of Statesville; and sister-in-law Evelyn Jolly of Statesville. He also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Buck was pre-deceased by son, Steven Lamar Jolly; in-laws, Henry B. and Evie Poole McGee; brothers, Odell, Al, and Charles Jr.; sisters, Inez Sprinkle, Hazel Campbell, Teensie Cook, Willie Marlowe, and Beulah Hines.
Through the years, Buck spent much time hunting with his coonhounds and beagles, and fishing for bass and crappie on Lake Norman. He also enjoyed watching tennis, college basketball, and classic television westerns. Buck was an avid NASCAR fan, especially of the Ford teams.
A memorial service celebrating Buck’s life will be conducted in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. The Rev. J.B. Parker, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service.
