John Bradford Taylor

Jul 19, 1952 — Oct 6, 2026

John Bradford Taylor of Statesville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, after a courageous battle of environmental cancer.

He was born on July 19, 1952, in Ashe County, and he was the son of James Radford Taylor and the late Pauline Jones Taylor.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Sue Taylor, daughter, Jessica Benfield (Brandon), niece, Amber Benfield (Randall), two brothers, Jimmy Taylor (Joy) and Daniel Taylor (Tamara) and his grandson, Lawson, who adored him.

John retired from Duke Power, where he proudly worked for 20 years. A true handyman at heart, there was very little he could not fix, repair, or build. He was an outstanding welder whose creativity and craftsmanship were admired by many. Over the years, he welded horseshoes and turned them into beautiful and meaningful pieces, including tables, wreaths, lamps, boot holders, and many other unique creations for family and friends. His work was not simply a skill -- it was a gift he generously shared with others.

He had a deep love for animals and was especially well known for his love of Australian Blue Heelers, which he took great pride in breeding and raising. His love for animals was evident in the care and attention he gave them.

John was also an avid horseman who loved nothing more than being in the saddle. His favorite movie was Lonesome Dove. He enjoyed trail riding, wagon trains, and spending countless hours with his horses. Those who rode alongside him will remember not only his love of horses, but also the stories, laughter, and friendships that came with every ride.

He was a wonderful cook and loved bringing people together around his table. He was always inviting friends and family to come and eat, and cooking supper every evening was something he truly enjoyed. His kitchen was a place where people were welcomed, plates were full, and there was always a story or a joke to share.

Another one of John’s passions was classic cars. He loved owning, admiring and spending time around classic cars and trucks. Like so many things he loved, classic cars gave him another way to work with his hands and enjoy the things that brought him happiness.

Family was very important to him, and he took great pride in helping care for his father, who survives at the remarkable age of 96. His devotion and willingness to be there for his father reflected the kind of man he was -- loyal, loving, and always willing to help those he cared about.

His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a proud and faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church. His church family held a special place in his heart.

John also treasured his many friends and never met a stranger. He was often the life of the party, keeping everyone entertained with his jokes, stories, and unmistakable sense of humor. His laughter could fill a room, and his stories could keep people listening for hours. He had a special way of making people feel welcome and leaving them with a smile.

He will be remembered for his hardworking hands, generous heart, love of horses and animals, incredible craftsmanship, delicious cooking, strong faith, and, most of all, the joy he brought to the lives of those around him.

He leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories and will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be conducted at Beulah Baptist Church on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Visitation for the family to receive friends will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm and the funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Beulah Baptist Cemetery.

“Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”
