John Clifford Lail

June 17, 1928 - February 16, 2017 John Clifford Lail, 88, of Troutman, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at his home. John was born on June 17, 1928 to the late Ralph Lail and Beulah Vickers Lail. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Westmoreland and Ruth Goodin, and three brothers, Buck Lail, Glenn Lail, and Ray Lail. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Hazel Collins Lail; sons, Tim (June) Lail of Shelby, Don (Angie) Lail of Monroe, Doug (Karen) Lail of Troutman; daughter, Connie (Hewitt) Linyard of Statesville; brothers, Tom Lail and Bobby Lail; grandchildren, Luann Kennedy, Lauren Mahaffey, Matthew Lail, Ryan Lail, Brad Lail, Katie Lail, John Lail, and Kristen Lail; and eleven great grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly. John worked at Coca-Cola for 34 years and became a plant manager before he retired in 1988. John was a lifelong member of Troutman Baptist Church as well as an active Gideon of Gideon’s International. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved hunting and fishing. He also served in the U.S. Navy. The funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Troutman Baptist Church with Rev. J.B. Parker officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Iredell Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN, 37214 and/or to Troutman Help Ministries (Meals on Wheels), P.O. Box 151, Troutman, NC, 28166.
