John Marion Hurt

John Marion Hurt was received into the arms of his heavenly Father on December 15, 2023. His blessed life of 92 years was highlighted by his experience of serving in the US Navy, meeting and marrying the love of his life (Colene Gray Hurt), raising 2 children, and then enjoying grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an awesome man… a Christian man, highly intelligent (Duke University Mechanical Engineering Degree), humble in spirit, kind, a friend to all who knew him, a man of honor. Dad enjoyed reading, playing Sudoku, taking care of his lawn, and staying physically fit. On his 90th birthday, he did 21 full military pushups. Until recently, he walked one and a half miles each morning.

Dad’s greatest gift to the world was the care that he gave my mother over the 12 years that she lived with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was adamant about keeping her at home.  It wasn’t until the last month of her life that he had to seek help in caring for her. The love and respect that he gave her was beautiful, a true testimony to the love that they shared.

Dad battled cancer for an extended period of time with determination to make the very best of every day. Faith, a positive attitude, and love for others contributed to a beautiful life, a life pleasing unto our Lord.

Dad is survived by his two sisters, Jo Anne Core and Norma Black and me, Cindy McNamee, his daughter, that is forever grateful for having had such a wonderful earthly father.

Services will be held at Troutman Funeral Home, 345 N Main St., Troutman, NC 28166 on Tuesday, December 19th at 12:00 pm.  Visitation with the family will be from 11:00-12:00. Graveside service will follow at 1:00.
