John Franklin Cloer

John Franklin Cloer, affectionately known as “Bud”, “Pawpaw”, and “Pawpaw Bud” of Statesville, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026, at his residence. He was 86 years old.

Born in Iredell County on December 4, 1939, he was the son of the late Vance Cloer and Mittie Head Cloer. He was the oldest and last sibling, having been preceded by his twin sister, Margaret Frankie Pharr “Sis”, twins, Bobby Cloer and Betty Hefner, sister, Geraldine Keller and brother, Gary Cloer.

Bud attended Troutman High School and served proudly in the United States Army, spending time in Korea.

Bud worked with Joe Cloninger Farming, then delivered milk for Superior Dairies and Flav-O-Rich for nearly 20 years. He later retired from CommScope in Catawba County. After retirement, Bud worked at Tractor Supply in Statesville until his health began to decline.

He enjoyed reading westerns, as many as 40 per month, having read every western in the library at least once. Bud was always ready to go somewhere. Among his favorites were Goodwill, the grocery store, the mountains, and fishing any chance he got.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Frances McCoy Cloer “Fran”; sons David (Gina) Cloer and Tony (Rhonda) Cloer; daughters, Sherry (Kevin) Beard and Janet (Dean) Singleton.

Bud is further survived by his grandchildren Jessica Cloer, Abby Cloer, Abel (Kamie) Cloer, Avery (Grace Mitchell) Cloer, Holden (Alaina) Cloer, Ashley (Alex) Helms and John Michael Singleton; and one great-granddaughter, Amelia Kate Cloer.

The family would like to express appreciation to Home Instead caregivers, Crystal, Kay, and Amber as well as the exceptional care provided by Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell.

The family will receive friends, Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM at Yadkin Baptist Church.

The funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM with Pastor Phillip Crider officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Pisgah Methodist Church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Cloer, Tony Cloer, Dean Singleton, Abel Cloer, Avery Cloer, Holden Cloer, and John Michael Singleton.

Memorials can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County.
