John McCarrick Charlton, 82, of Statesville, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the Gordon Hospice House with his daughter Cindy by his side.
John was born on June 24, 1938 in South Shields England to the late Joseph and Mary Ethel McCarrick Charlton. Retired Command Sergeant Major Charlton dedicated thirty years of service to the Air Force and Army. John loved his friends and family. He never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Charlton and former wife, Sabine Myer Charlton, sisters, Kathleen Flynn and Betty Jones and brothers, Melvin Charlton and Lawrence Charlton.
John is survived by his daughter, Cindy Charlton Sutton (Brandon) of Statesville, NC, three sons, Gregory McCarrick Charlton of Pelion, SC, John Jerald of Tucson, AZ, Christopher Bähr of Germany, and eight grandchildren, Dylan Sutton of Statesville, NC, Hunter Sutton of Pantego, NC, Sean Charlton of Pelion, SC, Joseph Charlton of Charlotte, NC, Allison Jerald of Tucson, AZ, Evan Jerald of Tucson, AZ, Star Jerald of Tucson, AZ and Tim Bähr of Germany.
A funeral service with full military honors and Masonic Rites will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Troutman Funeral Home with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery with Chaplain Aaron Macemore officiating.
The family would like to extend their love and thanks to the teams at Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County with special consideration to Paige and Kim.
