Joey Michael Hall

January 28, 1962 — May 22, 2026

Statesville

Joey Michael Hall, 64, of Statesville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 22, 2026.

Joey was born January 28, 1962, in Lexington, Virginia, to the late Freeman Albert “Jerry” Hall and Mary Ann Hall, lived a life rich in faith, love, music, family, and purpose. Joey was a devoted husband, father, Jdaddy, Papa, brother, uncle, friend, craftsman, musician, and faithful servant of God.

Joey had a gift for building. As a contractor by trade, he built beautiful homes with skill, pride, and craftsmanship. He was the kind of man who could do just about anything he set his mind to whether he was working with his hands, helping someone in need, cooking for those he loved, or sharing wisdom from a lifetime of experience. Joey gave of himself fully and generously.

Music was one of Joey’s greatest passions. He loved playing the guitar and singing, and when he played, he did so with a passion that could be felt by everyone around him. But his love for music reached even deeper through his faith. For more than 30 years, Joey played and sang praise and worship music with his Granite City Church family where he was a member for over 30 years. He loved every opportunity to talk about God, His love, and His goodness. His relationship with the Lord was unmatched, and his faith was evident in the way he lived, loved, and served.

Joey was blessed with the love of his life, his devoted wife, Karen, whom he cherished deeply for 39 years. Their love was a beautiful example of commitment, devotion, and partnership. Through their love, Joey was blessed with his daughter, Jennifer, whom he adored. One of his favorite things to say about her was that she was not spoiled — she was loved and treated like a princess. That was Joey’s way. He loved big, gave freely, and made sure his family knew just how treasured they were.

Joey’s family was one of the greatest joys of his life. He gained a special daughter, Sherra, and her husband, Eric, along with special grandchildren Miles, Lily and her fiancé Tanner, and Isaac. He was also blessed with a special great-grandson, Colter. He loved sitting with his family, sharing stories about his childhood, growing up, meeting the love of his life, and the many memories that shaped him. Family vacations in the mountains were especially dear to him, and he cherished every moment spent together.

One of Joey’s greatest joys was his granddaughter, Joeeann — his “Booger Bear.” Every morning, he looked forward to seeing her. He loved showing her how to play the guitar and sing, creating memories that will forever be treasured. Joey was rich in the things that matter most: love, faith, family, kindness, and wisdom.

Joey also loved hunting, special hunting trips with his brother Larry and nephew Jerry, gun shows, and time spent with his many buddies. He treasured his friendships deeply, including some very special friends such as Leo “Doc” Gibson, Billy Erwin, Richard Simonds, Joe Lowry, Scott Gorski, Sam Chamberlain, Steve Slate, and Nic Johnson. His pastors, Tammy and Larry Johnson, were not only spiritual leaders in his life, but lifelong friends who became family, along with Brad, Holly, and Arabella Johnson and Nic, Colt, and Averie Johnson.

Joey was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Melvin Hall; his sister, Bonnie Sutphin; and his beloved grandson, Isaac Lackey.

Those left behind to cherish his memory; his loving wife, Karen; his daughter, Jennifer; his granddaughter, Joeeann; his special daughter, Sherra and husband Eric; his special grandchildren, Lily and husband Tanner, and Miles; his great-grandson, Colter; and many beloved family members and friends.

He is also survived by his brother, Larry Hall and wife Laura, sister Connie Shelton and husband Nute, and his special brother, Johnnie Sutphin.

Joey will also be remembered with love by his many nieces and nephews, including Brad Hall, Jerry Hall, Heather Williamson and husband Shannon, Sherrie Bulkley and husband Mike, and Josh Shelton, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews. Though there are many nieces and nephews Joey loved, Jerry held a very special place in his heart.

Joey’s life was a testimony of faith, devotion, love, and grace. He loved God with all his heart, and he loved his family with a depth that words can hardly describe. His music, his stories, his wisdom, his laughter, his cooking, his craftsmanship, and his love will continue to live on in every life he touched.

Joey leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by possessions, but by the love he gave, the faith he lived, and the family he cherished. His song may be quiet here on earth, but it now continues in the presence of the Lord he loved so deeply.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at TrueVine Worship Center with Rev. Larry Johnson and Rev. Josh Bunton officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
