Joanne Goldstein Rosenfeld, 78, of Kiawah Island, SC, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025.
Joanne was born April 4, 1947, to the late Edward Goldstein and Ruth Shapiro Goldstein. She grew up on Long Island, NY. She attended NYU, received her bachelors in Economics and History, then attended Hofstra University to get her Masters of Science in Education. After teaching for just a short period of time, Joanne, her husband, and two children, Robin and Janet, moved to Statesville, NC with her parents in 1975. In 1978 she started working with her husband, Larry, at the textile mill helping him with his bookkeeping. She then began taking accounting classes and started studying for the CPA exam which she passed on the first attempt in 1982. After working at an accounting firm for two years, she decided to branch out on her own. She founded Rosenfeld and Company PC in 1985 and later ran it with her daughters, Robin and Janet. The firm just celebrated its 40th year this past July.
Joanne was a member of Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim in Charleston, SC. Over the years she was active in many organizations including founding Executive Women and volunteering with Meals on Wheels.
Joanne was an avid reader, loved taking walks on the beach, and treasured spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she adored. She was the best Bubbe and was a beloved surrogate Bubbe to so many.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 56 years, Laurence “Larry” J. Rosenfeld; daughters, Robin Rosenfeld (Richard Weiland) of Statesville and Janet Rosenfeld (Jack Spector) of Mooresville; grandchildren, Shaina Rosenfeld of Charleston, SC and Joshua Hager of Columbia, SC; brother, Barry Goldstein (Heidimarie) of Statesville; sister-in-law, Sandi Taub of Media, PA; and cousins, Paul Shapiro (Roberta) of New York City, NY and Robert Shapiro (Margo) of Wilmington, ME.
In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her Great Dane, Sweetie, her “third daughter.”
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, NC, with Steven Kerbel officiating. After the ceremony, family and friends are welcome to gather at Congregation Emanuel for visitation and a light snack. The family and friends will be sitting Shiva and visiting at Joanne and Larry’s house on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm. If you need an address or directions, please feel free to ask a family member. Serving as pallbearers will be Barry Goldstein, Josh Hager, Jack Spector, Richard Weiland, Paul Shapiro, Bob Shapiro and Bob Saltzman.
Memorials may be made to Lowcountry Marine Mammal to support her dolphins.
