Jean Gilbert Hatley

Jean Gilbert Hatley, 90, of New Bern, NC, formerly of Lenoir, NC, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025.

Jean was born on March 11, 1935, the daughter of the late Carl L. Gilbert, Sr. and Bertha Curtis Gilbert.

Along with her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Mearl Hatley, her brothers, Preston, Glenn and Albert Gilbert; sisters, Lettie Moretz, Emma Whisnant and Carolyn Trivette; son-in-law, Nick Metts, and granddaughter, Kendall Metts.

Jean is survived by her children: Lee Hatley, Melba Metts (Nick) and Randy Hatley; brother, Carl Gilbert, Jr. and sister, Frances Marler. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Ryan German, Danah Dunn, David Dyson, Jr., Angie Rudisill, Jamie Hatley, Dillon Hatley and Brittney Hatley; and 8 great-grandchildren, Kayla Tomchesson, Zackary Dunn, David Dyson III, Carson Dyson, Devin Huffman, Colton Hatley, Logan Rudisill and Lincoln Hatley.

Graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lenoir, NC on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 1:00 pm. Graveside rites will be conducted by Pastor Dewey Bristol. Active pallbearers will be David Dyson III, Zackary Dunn, Gary Whisnant, Terry Hudspeth, Keith Strange and Daniel Cline.
