James “Jim” Grier Morrison, Jr. 96, of Statesville, passed away, Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House.
Mr. Morrison was born March 8, 1923 in Statesville, NC and was the son of the late James Grier and Genoa Ellis Morrison. He graduated from D. Matt Thompson High School and served in the US Army during World War II, where he received a Silver Star and a two-time recipient of the Purple Heart. He was married to the late Helen Austin Morrison, who passed away in 2005 and they were members of First ARP Church in Statesville. In his earlier years, he was a supervisor for Phoenix Cotton Mill and later was a Greyhound Bus Driver for 35 years.
Jim is survived by one son, Terry Morrison (Janie) of Claremont; five grandchildren, Jim Morrison (Shannan) of Winston-Salem, Matt Morrison (Shawn) of Statesville, Andy Morrison (Kristen) of Taylorsville, Meredith Tew (Clark) of Statesville, Ben Morrison (Jesse) of Hickory and five great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Jim was preceded in death by one son, Mark Morrison.
Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, June 21, 2019 at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the service.
