James “Jim” Dalton Brendle, 96, of Statesville, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Born on June 1, 1929, in Forsyth County, he was the son of the late Thad Noble Brendle and Ila Willard Brendle.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Betty Summers Brendle, as well as his brother, Clell Brendle and sister, Lucille Brown.
He is survived by his two sons, Bill Brendle (Peggy) of Statesville, NC, and Ken Brendle (Arlene) of Leland, NC; his granddaughter, Anna Brendle Huff (Wes) of Winston-Salem, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Carter, Finley, and Sutton Huff. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Brendle (Shirley)of Statesville, NC.
Jim proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he dedicated 30 years of hard work to Auto Parts and Electric Company before retiring. A charter member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church, Jim found deep community, faith, and fellowship throughout his life.
A man who loved the outdoors, Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman, who found great joy in nature. He had a special love for animals, feeding them each day. He was an incredible whistler who delighted his family and friends by whistling many of his favorite hymns.
Jim will be remembered for his kindness and meaningful ways he brought joy to others.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 10 at Forest Park Presbyterian Church with Rev. Scott Jeffreys officiating. A private family burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Park Presbyterian Church, 1026 Davie Avenue, Statesville NC 28677 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville NC 28625.
