Hunter Sherrill Freeze

Feb. 2, 1929 - Sept. 28, 2014 Mr. Hunter Sherrill Freeze, 85, of Troutman, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014. He was born in Iredell County on February 2, 1929 to the late John Wilson and Gussie Sherrill Freeze. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Willie Fay Freeze. He is survived by two sons, Dale Rodney (Margot) Freeze of Florence, SC and Thomas E. Freeze of Troutman; three grandchildren, Holly (Butch) Donahue, Jason (Angela) Freeze, Sharon (Matthan) Thomas; two great grandchildren, Matthew Freeze and Hunter Matthan Thomas; brother, Curtis (Barbara) Freeze; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Freeze was a graduate of Troutman High School. He retired from JC Penney after 30 years of service where he was a recipient of the Golden Rule award, an honor of service to his company. He enjoyed regularly visiting shut-ins and friends at nursing homes. He was also a gardener who grew some of the best produce in the county and was often seen walking down Main Street with a pleasant smile on his face. He was a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Troutman where he served in many areas including Sunday School teacher, choir member and member of the Administrative Council. His sons would especially like to thank the family and friends who gave their time and energy to his care. The family would also like to thank the staff at Brian Center for their loving care. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2 at Troutman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3 at First United Methodist Church in Troutman with the Rev. Mike Carr officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
