Henry Edward Hughes, 96, of Troutman, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
He was born in Atlanta, GA, on July 21, 1917, to Emory and Janie Hughes. He was employed by Western Electric Co. in 1937and joined the US Army during World War II. He attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta for 2 years and graduated from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta with a LLB and LLM. He was retired from Western Electric Co. in 1980 with 43 years of service, never having missed a day of work. He was married to Louise Gattis for 57 years until she passed away in 1996. He later married Elizabeth Woods Thompson in 1998, who passed away in 2007.
He is survived by his son, Edward Hughes, Jr. (Kye) of Maryville, TN; two daughters, Phyllis H. Stallings (Ronnie) of Huntersville and Donna H. Roberts (Pat) of Greenville SC.
He was preceded in death by his son, Don R. Hughes; brother, Archie N. Hughes; and sister, Louise H. Bishop.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at Troutman Funeral Home on Monday, December 2, 2013, from 2 - 2:45 pm, followed by a graveside service at St. Michaels Cemetery in Troutman.
