Helen (Harris) Mayfield

Helen Harris Mayfield, 90, of Troutman, NC passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Helen was born May 30, 1929 in Statesville, NC, and was the daughter of the late Paul Revere Harris Sr. and Carrie Daniels Harris. She was a graduate of Statesville High School and on January 21, 1949 was married to Ben Gordon Mayfield. Helen retired from Troutman Industries and was a former member of New Perth ARP Church in Troutman where she was a member of Lois Hood Bible Class and Circle # 1. She loved babysitting her grandchildren and working in her yard.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Dot Harmon Deal, Ruth Ellen Ostwalt and as an infant, Betty Jo Harris; a brother, Paul R Harris, Jr. and a great-granddaughter, Haven Mae Lanning.

Helen is survived by her husband of 70 years, Ben Gordon Mayfield; 2 sons: Melton Gordon Mayfield and wife Joanie of Lancaster, SC, David Harris Mayfield and wife Angie of Mooresville, NC; and a daughter and caregiver, Brenda Mayfield Morrow and husband Rick of Troutman; 2 brothers: Melvin Harris and wife Shirley, J.D. Harris and wife Marie; 7 grandchildren: Ray Mayfield, Krista Lanning, Chad Morrow, Chasney Morrow Diem also her caregiver, Charles Morrow, Spencer Mayfield, Ben Mayfield; 9 great-grandchildren and 5 step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Troutman Funeral Home. A Memorial service will be held at a later date with a private family burial.
