Harry Kenneth Sims

April 12, 1929 - April 17, 2018 Harry Kenneth Sims, 89, of Troutman, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Kenneth was born on April 12, 1929 in Iredell County to the late Leroy Sims and Chattie Poole Sims. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Maxine Sims. Kenneth enjoyed his hobby working with solid wood, making grandfather clocks, mantel clocks, scroll work, and many other items of wood. He was a Veteran of the U.S Army. He served in the Field Artillery branch during the Korean War. He also worked at J.C. Penny Distribution Center for 37 years. He served as a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church and Sunday School Director of the Adult Assembly. Those left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 66 years, Ann Morrow Sims; son, Kenneth Brent Sims (Rose) of Troutman; daughters, Jane Sims Babela (John) of China Grove and Lynn Dale Sims Winecoff (Eddie) of Cherryville; eight grandchildren, Melissa J. Bunting, Kathryn B. Sowers (Trent), Michael Winecoff (Heather), Brandon Winecoff (Brandy), Kimberly W. Dover (Chip), Shawna Sims, Ashley Sims Matheson (Dylan) and Jeremy Babela; nine great-grandchildren, Hunter and Kyndall Winecoff, Rylee Winecoff, David Scott Meadows, Taylor and Kenleigh Sowers, and Ava, Zoe, and Charlie Dover, all who will miss him dearly. A visitation will be held at Troutman Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Woodward officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Iredell Memorial Gardens with full military rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail. Pallbearers include Michael Winecoff, Brandon Winecoff, Chip Dover, Dylan Matheson, Bobby Sims, and Ed Sprinkle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Organ Fund, 1162 East Monbo Road, Statesville, NC 28667 and/or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
