Grace Johnson Gibson

Grace Johnson Gibson, 82, of Statesville, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Grace was born September 4, 1942, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Derwood Johnson and Hazel Jenkins Johnson. She was a lifelong member of Union Chapel Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and choir director.

In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Gibson, and a brother, Derwood Johnson, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Teresa Talley (Mike); son, Mike Gibson; special daughter, Kelly Gantt; and her sister Margaret Mason; grandchildren, Margaret Blankenship (Lynn), Peter Abee (Claire), and Sarah Abee; great-grandchildren, Stella Blankenship and Jack Abee.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Saturday, May 31 at Union Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Robin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm.
