Glenn Arthur Gregory

September 23, 1930 - July 7, 2013 Glenn Arthur Gregory, of Troutman, passed away from Parkinson's-related complications on Sunday, July 7, 2013 surrounded by family. He was 82. Glenn was born on Sept. 23, 1930 to the late Arthur Glenn and Della Mae Gregory. The eldest son in a family of 10 children, he was born in Iredell County. After graduating from Celeste Henkel High School in 1949, he enlisted as a private in the United States Army and served for two years during the Korean War. After completing his tour, he returned home to Statesville. He met his wife, Edith, when she biked by him and struck his fancy. He kept finding ways to talk to her, and later, they wed in 1953. They have two sons, Blaine and Scott. Glenn was a maintenance mechanic for 24 years at Fiber Industries in Salisbury, where he retired from in 1989. He loved to garden, and especially loved to eat what he harvested himself. He enjoyed spending time in the North Carolina mountains and, during his retirement, built his own vacation home in Boone. He was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman. Glenn is survived by his wife, Edith Miller Gregory, with whom he would have celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary in August. He is also survived by his sons, Charles Blaine Gregory and wife, Gail Kerr, of Charlotte and Glenn Scott Gregory and wife, Beth Gregory, of Mooresville; and four grandchildren, Sara, Emily, Laura and Matthew. In addition, he is survived by eight brothers and sisters, Jean Parker, Betty Lippard, Shirley Shaver, Espy Gregory, Margaret Ashley, Marie Houston, Wanda Potts and Jimmy Gregory. He was predeceased by his brother, Bill Gregory. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Troutman Funeral Home. A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, after which he will be laid to rest in St. Martin's Cemetery on Wallace Springs Road, with full military rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Gordon Hospice House of Statesville or the Parkinson Association of the Carolinas. Troutman Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Glenn Arthur Gregory.
