Glenda Hildreth Sowers

Jun 5, 1945 — Jun 30, 2026

Statesville, NC

Glenda Hildreth (Blankenship) Sowers passed away on the morning of June 30, 2026. Glenda passed away at home after ensuring all her children knew they were loved; she followed the Rose Moon into the sunrise. Glenda was born June 5, 1945, and grew up in a small house on Bingham St. in Statesville, NC, in a lively home full of children and animals. Glenda was the eldest child of Nellie Hildred Millsaps (D. 08/01/2011) and William Glenn Blankenship Jr. (D. March 1979).

Glenda married Ralph L. “Larry” Sowers on March 28, 1964, and they had 62 wonderful and exciting years of marriage. Glenda completed cosmetology in the early 1980s and spent many happy and successful years running the Hair Loft, located next to her home. Glenda and Larry had four children together: Ralph Lawrence “little Larry” Sowers Jr. (B. and D. 06/27/1967), Corby L. Sowers, Wendy D. (Sowers) Scott (M. Keith Scott), and Trent J. Sowers (Amanda “Mandy” Bruce). Glenda had five granddaughters: Dominique Scott, Naomi Scott, Autumn Scott, Taylor Sowers, and Kenleigh Sowers. Glenda also had two grandsons by choice, Derek Buchanan and Oliver Cline. Glenda was preceded in death by both of her parents, her sister, Elaine (Blankenship) Frady (D. 08/06/2025), and her firstborn son, Little Larry.

Glenda was a member of the Church of Christ and the embodiment of everything a Christian and a person should aspire, hope, and pray to be. To have known Glenda was to have the opportunity to get the best hugs and experience unconditional love and forgiveness.
