George James (Jr.) Merkel

George James Merkel, Jr., 82, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice house, June the 9, 2024.

George was born August 22, 1941, in Queens, New York to the late George James Merkel Sr. and Norma Tobin Merkel.  George graduated from schools in Queens, NY, was married to the late Helen Marie Freferico Merkel, who passed away in December 2023 and was Co-Owner with his brother of Merkel Brothers Moving & Storage.

George is survived by a daughter, Tracy Leo (Anthony) of New York; two sons, George James Merkel, III of Waxhaw, NC and Jeff Merkel (MeLanie) of Troutman, NC; one sister, Judy Scotko of New York and seven grandchildren, Deandra Leo, Nicolette Leo, Chaz Leo, Jake Merkel, Paige Merkel, Brett Merkel and Ben Merkel.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
