George Allen Jones

George Allen Jones, 80, of Statesville, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Mountain Valley Hospice House.

George was born on September 25, 1945, in Louisiana, to the late George N. Jones and Norma Frazier Jones. He was a 1963 graduate of Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana. He went on to serve in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. After serving our country, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte then worked as a Civil Engineer for the City of Charlotte. He enjoyed spending his free time reading, gardening, growing flowers, birdwatching and hiking.

Left to cherish his memory, are his longtime companion and caregiver, Edna “Edy” Shupe; two children: son, Thomas W. Jones of Kansas and daughter, Melanie Freeze of North Carolina; one sister, Nettie Rader of Florida; three half-sisters, Brenda Mackovich, Patricia Chadwell and Teresa McFall all of Indiana; one stepsister, Audrey Helton of Indiana; one half-brother, Daryl Johnson of Indiana and one stepbrother, James K.E. Johnson of North Carolina; several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a daughter, Briana Jones of South Carolina; a sister, Joyce Williams of Indiana; and a half-brother, Douglas Cheatham Jr. of South Carolina.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Greg Anderson of Mountain Valley Hospice.
