Frances C. Horton, age 81, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026.
Born on September 3, 1944, Frances was the beloved daughter of the late MB and Louise Creedmore. Frances was preceded in death by her parents. She was also preceded by Jerry Mayes, the father of Michelle Mayes Benton, by her late husband Johnny Mark Davis, father of Katherine Davis Elkes, and by late husband, Robert Horton.
Frances’ greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her loving sister, Grace C. Anderson. She is also survived by her daughter Michelle Benton and her husband Roger Benton of Monroe, NC, and her daughter Katherine Davis Elkes and her husband Marty Elkes Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC. She was a proud grandmother to Olivia Benton and her fiancé, William Haynes, Faith Benton, Spencer Benton and his wife Jaylynn Benton and Tripp Elkes. She also adored her great grandchildren, Maisie Benton and Thea Benton. Frances treasured her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, finding immense happiness in watching her family grow and thrive.
Frances was a faithful and devoted member of Western Avenue Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She also sang in the choir and served as Church Secretary at Mulberry Baptist Church when she lived in Charlotte in her earlier years. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she found great joy in lifting her voice in praise and serving her church family with dedication and love.
She also found happiness in simple pleasures — knitting beautiful handmade pieces for loved ones and spending time working in her yard, tending to her flowers and enjoying the peace of the outdoors.
Funeral services for Frances will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Hebron Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jasmine who cared so well for our mom as her health declined, to the staff of Indigo Assisted Living at Carolina Forest for their compassionate care and support during the last sixteen months of her life. We are also forever grateful to Tish who provided care, help, kindness, and support during these final months.
In the words of her daughters, Michelle and Katherine: “Mom, we are so glad that you are ours. We love you; we will never forget you. Thank you for all you have done and given to us.”
Arrangements for Frances are in the care of Troutman Funeral Home.
