Erin Kelley Thompson

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Erin Kelley Thompson, an abundantly vibrant soul born on September 9, 1999, who departed from this world far too soon on September 2, 2026. 

Erin is survived by her dearest husband, Joseph Thompson, their wonderful daughter Montgomery Sue Thompson; her parents, Joi and Patrick Kelley; her brother, Logan Kelley (Hannah); her sister, Kaity Gonzalez (Ray); her grandparents, Marjorie and Glen Kelley (affectionately known as Gigi and Pop); her in-law’s, Brad and Allison Thompson; her brother-in-law, David Thompson (Kendall); her sister in-law, Sara Thompson; and her best friend, Cassandra Shook (Henry); as well as the multitude of extended family members, countless children she has cared for over the years, and amazing friends who will fondly remember their shared moments of joy and sorrow. She is also survived by her beloved bunch of nieces and nephews, Jocelyn, Iris, Tara, Barrett, Asher, Maple, Ellie Mae, and Baby Kelley, whom she loved so deeply. They thought she was, without a doubt, the coolest person ever. They too will greatly miss her, and our navigating an unprecedented loss. 

She is preceded in death by her Grandma Sue (Myrtle Sue Britton), her Grandpa Ken (Kenneth Britton), her Great Maw-Maw (Esther Phillips), and great grandmother (Willie Sanford). They would have been incredibly proud of the life she led, and the woman she became. Erin was a charismatic spirit, whose personality could only be described as a unique blend of over confidence with a touch of nervousness, sarcasm, energy, a unique, and charming humor, loyalty, and eccentricity. She was humble yet proud, kind and caring, headstrong and opinionated, so excessively witty, faithful, loving, and joyful beyond words. Erin was incredibly intelligent and well-read. She loved the comfort of her home, making it a haven for anyone who needed shelter. Her deep feelings, empathetic nature, emotional depth, thoughtful approach to life, sincere pride, and undeniable compassion made her truly one-of-a-kind. She lived her life with the belief that there was beauty and meaning in all things. Erin's life lessons were simple yet profound: To show kindness, to love fiercely, to live loud without shame, to always put others before yourself, to continuously expand your knowledge, to fight for what you believe in, to face adversities head-on because they are worth overcoming, and to cherish every moment spent with family and friends. 

Erin's proudest accomplishment was her and Joseph’s daughter, Montgomery. Monty Sue was her joy, and reason for being. She was without a doubt the best mother in the entire world. She stepped out of her comfort zone by moving away from her family and friends, challenging herself to learn baking skills, elevating herself to the role of a caregiver, and spreading her light all over Colorado. Her active involvement in the Bible study group Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC) was the testimony of her faith and undying spirit. Throughout all of that she also managed to be the very best Aunt Erin, Auntie, and TiTi to her several nieces and nephews, who absolutely adored her. 

Erin leaves behind a rich legacy, at the core of which stood Monty, whom she was undeniably proud of, and had raised to be so smart, funny, and kind. Her unwavering love for her husband, Joseph, whom she supported, always. Her collection of books that she dove into full force and tallied every day. The numerous movies she enjoyed with Joseph and kept detailed records of for their annual movie review sessions. Her collection of fun earrings and headbands that brought joy to so many children she watched, her beautiful dresses, hilarious stickers, pairs of glasses that only she could pull off… And her incredible journey of self-growth. All of which we are all extraordinarily proud of her for. The depth of Erin's impact is reflected in the multitudes of lives she touched. Her absence will be deeply felt by an enormous number of people, but she will never ever be forgotten. Her love will continue to grow in all of us.

We will always love you, Erin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Hill and Dr. Scott Eanes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
