Ellen Ann (Spooner) Stevenson

Ellen Ann Spooner Stevenson, 85, of Statesville passed away Tuesday, April 16 at Gordon Hospice House.

Ellen was born November 27, 1933 in Fall River, Massachusetts to the late Leslie and Thelma Catherine McLeod Spooner.

In earlier years and prior to retiring with her late husband, Bill, Ellen was employed with Iredell County Schools as a teacher assistant, food services manager, a substitute teacher, and secretary.  Her time working in the schools and being with children and young people every day brought her great joy.  Ellen’s most fulfilling role was as homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother.  She could not do enough for her family and always put their needs ahead of her own.  She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, and crafting, and consistently provided and surprised her family with the fruits of those labors of love.

In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Edward Stevenson, her dear Aunt Margaret McLeod Reilly and a brother, Leslie.

Her family who will forever adore and miss her includes two sons, Richard and wife Cindy; and Kenneth; two daughters, Margaret Allen and Jan Mason; three grandchildren, Sumayya Allen, Michael Allen, and Dustin Mason; three great-grandchildren, Safiyyah, Ismail, and Umar Sanchez; a brother, Winston; four sisters, Barbara Bell, Janet and husband Gerry Hannafin, Ada and husband Arthur Perron; and Beverly Clarke; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ellen Ann Stevenson’s memory to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC  28625.
