Edward Thomas Chenevey

Mar 7, 1949 — Sep 13, 2026

Statesville, NC

Edward Thomas Chenevey, 77, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

Born in Wayne County, Ohio on March 7, 1949, he was the son of the late Vernon Paul Chenevey and Virginia Franks Chenevey Sigler. In addition to his parents, Ed was also preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Dean Chenevey, brother Bill Chenevey, and sister Janet Duffy.

Ed was a father, papaw, husband, brother, and friend who will be remembered for his service to his community and church, his love for his family and friends, and his love for Jesus. He was a faithful servant at Fairview Baptist Church, serving in many capacities.

Ed impacted many students and staff’s lives in his years of service in the Iredell-Statesville School System. He worked as a coach, teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Following his retirement, he worked at the Union Grove General Store for 19 years.

He enjoyed yard saleing, gardening, golfing, and especially ice cream, Volkswagens, and spending time with his family. He loved watching his grandchildren at their numerous sporting events. He continued to be a Buckeye fan and delighted in watching Ohio State football. He was a character who loved to joke and laugh. He was always hiding somewhere trying to give someone a good scare. Ed started donating blood in college and was faithful to donate whenever the opportunity arose. After his last donation, he was one pint short of eighteen gallons.

Ed’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his children: Nanette Cockerham (Josh), Scott Chenevey (Lindsey), Andy Chenevey (Heather), and Josh Cranford (Georgeanna); grandchildren: Taylor (Payton), Ryan (Casey), Will, Andrew, Josie (Zach), Corban (Gracie), Maylin, Levi, Charlie, Nora, Karmen, and Wyatt; his great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Lyla, Tilley, and Mia; and siblings: Charlie, Randy, Les, his identical twin Fred and his baby sister Sue.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Church, with Pastor Paul Hill and Dr. Scott Eanes officiating, with a private graveside service for immediate family prior to the service. The family will visit with friends following the service, during an ice cream social in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, the family asks that you honor Ed’s memory by performing a random act of kindness. Buy someone a meal/coffee, help a neighbor, give to someone in need, or do something kind for someone else in his memory. The family hopes that through these small acts of kindness, Ed’s memory will continue to touch the lives of others.

Troutman Funeral Home is honored to serve the Chenevey family.
