Edward Odell Brooks, age 85, of Troutman, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Gordon Hospice House. He was born on December 7, 1938 in Kannapolis, NC. He was the husband of Evelyn Howard Brooks and the son of the late Edward Eugene and Bonnie Childers Brooks. After high school he joined the US Marine Corps and was deployed to Lebanon to protect Israel. He was a retired Captain of the Mecklenburg County Police Department and served 30 years. Protecting the innocent and defending those in need were attributes that he spent nearly his whole life upholding. He was a servant leader in all aspects of his life. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and always had a remarkable garden. When he wasn’t spending time outdoors, he was in the sky utilizing his private pilot’s license. He loved to travel and had been to all 50 states as well as several countries abroad. He was a member of Founded in Truth Fellowship in Rock Hill, SC and had been an ordained deacon at Fallstown Baptist Church. He had a relationship with Yeshua and spent his life pointing others to Him. The outpouring of this relationship left a legacy that will be felt for generations to come. Edward Brooks is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Howard Brooks; their four children Wendy Pridgen, Dell Barton, Stephanie Harpman, and Edward Brooks and their respective spouses, G.L Pridgen, Bradford Barton, Tim Harpman, and Shana Brooks; nine grandchildren, Rory Joyce, Jr. (Audrey), Brooks Joyce (Angel), Bradford “Chase” Barton (Brie), Nicholas Barton, Maria Kozoman, Samuel Kozoman, Faith Brooks Woodard (Trae), Anna-Grace Brooks, and Luke Brooks; eight great-grandchildren, Rory “David” Joyce, III, Sadie Joyce, Emelie “Emma” Joyce, Evelyn “Evy” Joyce, Bennett Joyce, Bradford “Ford” Barton, Gianna Olasebikan, Brooks Woodard, and sister Dottie Whitesides. Edward was preceded in death by his parents Edward Eugene and Bonnie Childers Brooks, his siblings Olin Brooks, Joanne Blanton, and his grandchildren Robert Kozoman and Julia Kozoman. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Park Chapel at 601 Mount Olivet Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083 with his son Edward Brooks and Rev. Matthew Vanderels officiating. Entombment will follow the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Chapel.
