Edith Mae Mickles LeVan

November 12, 1945 — July 16, 2025

Hiddenite

Edith Mae Mickles LeVan, 79, of Hiddenite, NC peacefully passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville NC.

Edith was born November 12, 1945, in Forsyth County, to the late Bonson Harding Mickles and Mary Lucille Smith Mickles. She was married for 54 years to the love of her life, Lloyd Parks “Buddy” LeVan, who preceded her in death in 2019.

A dedicated professional, Edith retired from JCPenney after many years as the Logistics Manager, where she was not only a supervisor but also a cherished friend to many. Following her retirement, she worked with the Iredell-Statesville School System in the after-school Prime Time program, where she treated every student with love and care. She served many years as the Music Director and pianist at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member most of her life. She also served a period of time as Music Director at Hiddenite Methodist Church. She traveled many years playing the piano and singing with “The Lane LeVan Trio” from the mid 1970’s to the mid 1980’s.

Throughout her life, Edith maintained her dignity and character. She exemplified a life of service and generosity, embodying the ideals of a devoted Christian wife, mother and friend. If anyone had the ability to earn or deserve Heaven, it would be Edith. However, only her deep personal relationship with the Lord is what allowed her to enter into Heaven for eternity.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Buddy, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Freeland Winebarger, a brother, Billy Dale Mickles, sister-in-law, Linda Mickles, and brothers-in-law, David Hutchins and Bryant Freeland.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, J. Lane LeVan (Angela); grandsons, Christian LeVan, Caleb LeVan and Canaan LeVan (Alyssa); brothers, Bobby Mickles (Wanda), Denny Mickles; sisters, Bonnie Hutchins, Linda Gail Lafferty (David) and Ruth Stewart (David); brother-in-law, Roger Winebarger; sister-in-law, Debbie Mickles; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County for all the wonderful care and support they gave during her time of illness.
