Edgar "Eddie" Lee McDaniels

Edgar Lee “Eddie” McDaniels, 78, of Morganton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, at Carolina Caring Sherrills Ford Hospice House in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina.

Born on October 23, 1947, in Statesville, North Carolina, Eddie was the son of the late Richard Lee McDaniels and Carolyn Pauline Speaks McDaniels. He attended Central School in Statesville.

Eddie was employed for many years by Kerns Bread Company in Statesville. He later worked for Wonder Bread in Orlando, Florida, and McLean Trucking in Atlanta, Georgia.

Eddie brought joy and laughter to those around him and enjoyed visiting flea markets. Each spring, he looked forward to planting his garden and took great pride in growing tomatoes. As some would say, his tomatoes were always “summer ready.”

Eddie is survived by his longtime partner, Rebecca; his children, Edwina Baxter of Statesville and Haley Bryan of Asheville; his sister, Diane McDaniels McCoy of Statesville; his brother, Donnie McDaniels, (Judy) and his sister, Vicky McDaniels Gilleland of Statesville. He is also survived by five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Lee McDaniels and Carolyn Pauline Speaks McDaniels, a son Charlie McDaniels and grandson Hayden McDaniels.

His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

His family would like to thank Carolina Caring Sherrills Ford Hospice House for the excellent care Eddie received during his time there.
