Dr. Richard A. Guill, 92, of Stony Point, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House.
Richard was born on July 25, 1933, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Richard Abner Guill and Ruth Anderson Guill. He was a graduate of Sparta High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Georgia. During the Korean Conflict, he proudly served in the United States Army Security Agency and was stationed in Korea for part of his military service.
Dedicated to lifelong learning, Richard continued his education and earned a Ph.D. in Genetics in 1973. He began his career with Pilch Poultry Corporation in Troutman, North Carolina, where his work took him throughout South America. He later worked for a swine corporation in South Carolina, continuing his distinguished career in the agricultural industry. Later, he started Taylor Made Feeds until his retirement. Richard was an avid coon hunter and champion breeder.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Judith Elaine Davis Guill.
Those left to cherish his memory are his five sons, Ronald A. Guill (Olga), Richard A. Guill, Jr. (Donna), Rafe A. Guill, Rex A. Guill (Renee), and Robbins A. Guill (Leslie); daughter in love, Gretchen Guill; sixteen grandchildren, Piotr, Allen, Ryan (Kelly), Landon, Ricky (Jeanette), Jonna (Trey), Eryn (Brendan), Jami (Brandon), Dillon, Ansley, Patrick, Tyler (Sara), Kirby (Travis), Alex, Lindsay (Drew), and Brayden; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 18 in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm. Burial will follow the funeral service at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to give special thanks to the CNA’s, Social Workers and nurses with Iredell County Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as his in-home caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
