Dr. Oren Jerry Hill, Jr

Sep 26, 1950 — Aug 19, 2026

Dr. Oren Jerry Hill, Jr., 75, of Mooresville, formerly of Statesville, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, following a brief hospitalization.

Jerry was born on September 26, 1950, in Greenville, South Carolina, and was the son of the late Oren Jerry Hill, Sr. and Alice Elizabeth Robinson Hill of Concord, North Carolina. He was a 1968 graduate of Concord High School. On August 14, 1971, Jerry married Rebecca W. Adams, daughter of the late James C. Adams and Mary Frank Colerider Adams, who preceded him in death on July 19, 2011.

Jerry attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He continued his education at the UNC School of Dentistry, earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1976. While in dental school, Jerry was active in student government and was a member of the Psi Omega Dental Fraternity, where he served as both treasurer and president. His academic and professional pursuits also included a Pfeiffer Research Fellowship and an externship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Following dental school, Dr. Hill continued his education at the Albert B. Chandler Medical Center at the University of Kentucky, completing the graduate program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Upon completion of his training, he established a private practice in Statesville, North Carolina, where he served his patients and community for 40 years.

Throughout his distinguished professional career, Dr. Hill was a member of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He served as president of the Iredell-Alexander Dental Society and was an active member of the North Carolina Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. His commitment to his community extended well beyond his profession. Jerry served as president of the Greater Statesville Rotary Club and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Fort Dobbs.

On May 4, 2013, Jerry married Constance (Connie) Brewer Nuttall. Following his retirement after 40 years of practice, he had more time to devote to the many interests and pursuits he enjoyed throughout his life.

Jerry had a great love for both freshwater and saltwater fishing. He especially enjoyed fly fishing and took great satisfaction in tying his own flies. His appreciation for history led him to become associated with a historical group that toured battlefields for more than 20 years with noted National Park Service Historian Emeritus Edwin C. Bearss. Jerry also had a passion for family and genetic genealogy, searching for historical artifacts, and reading. A man of many talents and interests, he was also a modeler and an artist.

Chapel Hill always held a special place in Jerry’s heart, and he returned frequently to enjoy UNC athletics, visit the art museum, conduct research in the university libraries, and participate in continuing education. His lifelong curiosity, appreciation for history and the arts, and dedication to learning remained an important part of his life throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Rebecca A. Hill.

He is survived by his wife, Constance (Connie) Brewer Hill; daughter, Katie H. Long (Brian); granddaughters, Olivia Rebecca Long and Emma Caroline Long; son, Adam F. Hill; sisters, Penne E. Hill and Robing Sadler (Chris); stepdaughters, Shelly Gardner (Dave) and Stacie Hanna (Mark). In addition to his family, he is survived by numerous friends and colleagues whose lives he touched throughout the years.
