Dorothy Ann Whiteside Shanklin

Dorothy Ann Whiteside Shanklin, 95, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Deerfield Assisted Living in Boone. NC.

Dorothy was born December 14, 1929, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Walter Bedford Whiteside, Sr. and Ethel Thomasson Whiteside. She was a graduate of Harding High School in Charlotte. She worked at the family business, DMA, Inc. She was a member of New Perth ARP Church, where she played the handbells. She was a very active member of the Lois Hood Sunday School Class, Women’s Circle #4 and the Red Hatters Club. She worked at the Election Polls and volunteered at Iredell Memorial Hospital. In her free time, she enjoyed boating on Lake Norman, playing Bridge and spending time with her friends and family.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Edward Marshall Shanklin, and three siblings, Walter Whiteside “Jr,”, William “Bill” Whiteside and Nancy Nunn.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Richard Shanklin of Charlotte; daughter, Sharon Orlowski (Ron) of Banner Elk; grandchildren, William Shanklin, Apryl Rondina and Jonathan Rondina; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Rondina, Savannah Medlin, Andrew Rondina and Emilia Shanklin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 27 in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Hazen officiating. Burial will follow in the New Perth ARP Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
