Dorothy Aileen (Summers) Little

February 13, 1925 — April 30, 2019

Statesville

Dorothy Summers Little passed away peacefully at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC during the early morning of Tuesday, April 30, 2019.

Dorothy (“Dot”) was born to Charles Flake and Hila Katherine Ellis Summers on February 13, 1925 in Stony Point, NC.  She attended Monticello Elementary School and graduated from Scotts High School, class of 1942.

Upon graduation, Dot worked for Western Union (WWII era) in the Historical Vance Hotel in Statesville.  She then was employed as a bookkeeper at Shaver Motor Company (GM Pontiac) and then as Office Manager at John Boyle and Company until her retirement in 1987.

Dot married her high school sweetheart, Skyler Briston Little, on October 12, 1946, following Skyler’s service in WWII.  They were married at Concord Presbyterian Church where Dot had been attending since age 7.  Skyler pre-deceased Dot on August 1, 2018.

Dot and Skyler welcomed their only child, Joye Blyth Little, on Saturday morning, May 12, 1956, the day before Mother’s Day.  They were wonderful parents to Joye and thoroughly enjoyed being grandparents to Katherine.  Dot and Skyler fully embraced the love and fellowship of many family and friends throughout their 72 years of marriage.   They were a wonderful, fun-loving couple and led an active and vibrant life for most of their years together.

Dot was a person of incredible and unwavering faith, and she cherished her membership in Concord Presbyterian Church.  She sang in the choir for over 28 years, was a Deacon and held membership in Concord Presbyterian Women.  She was recognized by the Women of the Church for her long-standing service to the Church.  The family especially appreciates the love and support the members of the Church have shown them over many years and the close friendships that developed during these years.

Dot also was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Statesville Elks Lodge and enjoyed painting after her retirement (oils, acrylics and watercolors), gardening, needlework, sewing, traveling America and overseas and celebrating family.

Dot is survived by her daughter, Joye Little Lamberth and husband, Ron, and granddaughter, Katherine McLean Lamberth and husband, Pell George, all residing in Charlotte, NC.  She was also the oldest of seven siblings and is survived by her sister, Carolyn Rae Summers Fulp and her brother, Charles Donald Summers (Jean), as well as sister-in-law, Peggy Gwaltney Summers.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, William (Bill) Ellis Summers, Richard Norman Summers, James Alfred  Summers (Doris); one sister, Mary Julia Summers McElroy (Ralph) and brother-in-law, James Nash Fulp, II; two sisters-in-law, Birchie Little Pope (Edwin), Mildrene Little Pope (Will); brother-in-law, Hillmer James Little (Odessa) and niece, Judy Pope Stevenson. Mrs. Little is celebrated by 12 nieces and nephews and 18 grand nieces and nephews.

Service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Monday, May 6, 2019 at Concord Presbyterian Church in Statesville with burial to follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:45-12:55 in the Church Fellowship Hall, with “light lunch” refreshments prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Joe Bottoms, Mike Cook, Randy Dellinger, Preston Redmon, Frank Setzer and Mark Summers.
