Dorothy Marie (Gooden) Hix

Dorothy Marie Gooden Hix, 92, of Harmony, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021.

Dorothy was born on October 7, 1928 in Turnersburg, NC and was the daughter of the late Marvin Jones Gooden and Mary Ester Cook Gooden. She attended Harmony High School and on March 17, 1946 she married her husband, Harry Charles Hix, who preceded her in death in 2009. In her early years her work career included; Grants Store, Eagles Department Store, Stinson Hosiery, Rosewood Nursing Home, Rocky Creek Wood Craft and for many years kept children in her home. She was a life long member of Hebron Baptist Church where she had sung in the choir and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed gardening, especially taking care of her roses. She was a beloved mother and a wonderful caregiver. Dorothy was a lifetime member of Harmony Chapter 331 Eastern Star.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Ray Hix and a brother, Kenneth Gooden.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Alan Hix (Vivian) of Harmony, Keith Hix (Sharon) of Raleigh, three daughters, Kay Wood of Belmont, NC, Martha Hix of Winston Salem, Nancy Moore (Terry) of Mooresville, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren a brother, Ronald Gooden (Mary Ruth) of Turnersburg, and a sister-in-law, Wilma W. Gooden of Statesville, also survive.

A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, July 23 at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Darren Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the graveside service.
