Dec. 31, 1929 - Mar. 14, 2016 Dorothy "Dot" Kates Hendren, 86, of Statesville, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016. Dot was born on December 31, 1929, to the late Brittian Haywood and Mary Bundy Kates. She was a graduate of Troutman High School and in her early years worked as a seamstress in a local manufacturing company. She also worked for Intercraft Industries and, after her retirement, worked part-time for ESC in Troutman. Dot was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who adored spending time with her family and friends. She loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed working with her flowers. She also enjoyed travelling to the beach or to the mountains, her favorite places to go. In her spare time, she enjoyed working with her hands and crocheting. A lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman, she attended church every Sunday and was active with the ladies’ group meetings. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Marsha H. Null (Bill), of Statesville; son, Jeffery Hendren (Connie) of Catawba; sisters, Ethel Wilhelm (Jay) of Statesville and Mary Alice Wood of Monroe; grandchildren, Stephanie Davis (Josh) of Bethlehem and Justin Hendren (Amber) of Catawba; and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jayden Davis of Bethlehem. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lester Haywood Kates. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 1 - 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dieter Punt officiating. Interment will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 308, Troutman, NC 28166 or to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
