Dorothy (Hayes) Cash

Mrs. Dorothy Hayes Cash, 93, of Statesville, passed away, Saturday, July 8, 2023 at her home.

Mrs. Cash was born September 27, 1929 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Walter and Darlie Rash Hayes. She was a graduate of Harmony High School and was married to the late Wayne Dolphus Cash. She previously worked at Monticello Elementary School in the cafeteria and also as a bus driver. Later, she retired from Hunt Manufacturing. She was a longtime member of Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church, where she taught 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School and was very active in the Women’s Circle. She was an avid gardener and was the family historian, spending time with family members doing genealogy.

She is survived by three children, Dr. David Cash (Diane) of Statesville, Alan Cash (Lindy) of Savannah, GA, Linda Cash Wilhelm of Statesville; six grandchildren, Lauren Tutterow (Scott), Brendan Cash, Aaron Cash (River), Amber Wimmer (Lt. Col. Matthew Wimmer), Matthew Wilhelm (Cassie), Jacob Wilhelm (Heather Buff); 10 great grandchildren, Nolan Tutterow, Brooks Tutterow, Brynlee Vanhoy, Rylee Wilhelm, Aubree Wilhelm, Cameron Wilhelm, Kinsley Wimmer, Caroline Wimmer, Reagan Wilhelm, Remington Wilhelm and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Gaston Hayes, JW Hayes, Mildred Dobson, Billy R. Hayes, Edna Ingram, Ruth Reece, Jerry Hayes and Larry Hayes.

Graveside funeral services will be held 1:00pm Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Iredell Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tom Corbell and Rev. Tom Sherrod officiating. A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Christ Boulevard UMC, Rev. Bridgett Thornton and Rev. Tom Corbell will officiate.
