Dorothy Sue Sloan Campbell

Dorothy Sue Sloan Campbell, 87, of Statesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House.

Dorothy was born December 1, 1938, in Iredell County, to the late Rex Orren Sloan and Edna McCurdy Sloan. She received an associate degree from Mitchell Community College and she worked as a Substitute Teacher. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society, and she was past secretary of the Kiwanis. She enjoyed gardening, crafting, sewing and keeping nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, William, Jim and Clay Sloan, and sisters, Frankie Moose, Polly Hart, Joyce Madison and Elvalee Templeton.

Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are her sons, Charles Phillip Campbell, Jr. and David Allen Campbell (Sandra); grandchildren, Charles Campbell III, Elizabeth Michelle Campbell, Ivan Edward Smith, Joshua Kirk Campbell and Callie Grace Campbell; brothers, Donald Sloan (Naomi), Dennis Sloan (Carolyn), Wayne Sloan and Gerald Sloan (Debbie); sisters, Almedia Baxter and Judy Upright (Larry); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 3, at East Side Baptist Church with Rev. Jon Aker, Rev. John Bolin and Rev. John Parks officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Side Baptist Church, 310 Eastside Drive, Statesville, NC 28625 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.

Arrangements for Dorothy are in the care of Troutman Funeral Home.
