Doris Jean Cook Galliher

May 31, 1930 - Feb. 1, 2017 Doris Jean Cook Galliher, 86, of Troutman, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Statesville, NC. Mrs. Galliher was born May 31, 1930, to the late Harold Clyde Cook and Beatrice Freeze Cook in Kannapolis, NC. She graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Science and Math. She married, Donald Galliher, on November 19, 1955. She was a high school Chemistry teacher for 30 years at Troutman High School and South Iredell High School. She was loved and adored by the many students she taught. She was passionate about educating her students. She was an active and dedicated member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Troutman. During her retirement years she loved to quilt, craft and read. She will always hold a special place in the hearts of those she touched. Those who are left to treasure her memory are her husband of 61 years Donald Webster Galliher Sr. of Statesville, two children, Donald W. Galliher Jr. of Kernersville and Kathy G. Swanson (Rocky) of Statesville. Two granddaughters Brittany M. Swanson-Pelletier (Shane Pelletier) of Statesville and Megan K. Swanson of Cornelius, three great grand-children Blaine M. Swanson, Hunter P. Pelletier, and Avery J. McGrath. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a kind and gentle loving mother/grandmother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. She is also survived by her brother Clyde Cook Jr. (Geri) of N. Wilkesboro and her sister Sherry C. Roseman (Andy) of Ocean Isle Beach. She was proceeded in death by her sister Mildred C. Winecoff. The family wants to give special thanks to Marie Giles and Susan Miller who cared for and loved "Miss. Jean" with the upmost dignity, respect and kindness. To Dr. B.E. Dunlap for his years of continued compassion and medical care and Hospice Care of Statesville for their comfort and wonderful care these last few days. Our family will be forever grateful for you. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Troutman, NC. Service is led by Pastor Dieter Punt. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers please send memorial gifts to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church building fund 225 Morgan Street, Troutman, NC 28166.
