Doris Beaver Williams

June 29, 1938 — March 13, 2026

Statesville

Doris Beaver Williams, 87, went to her heavenly home on March 13, 2026. She was born to the late Joe Beaver and Trena Warren Beaver June 29, 1938, in Iredell County.

Following her graduation from Cool Springs School, Doris moved to Charlotte where she attended and graduated from cosmetology school, beginning what would become a long and distinguished career in the beauty profession.

Doris married the late Phillip C. “Pete” Williams in 1957. Together they opened hair salons in Statesville, Salisbury, and Charlotte. Ultimately, they established and operated Hair Stylists, Inc. Later, they became owners of cosmetology schools in Statesville and Winston-Salem, known as Hair Stylists Academy.

Doris earned widespread recognition in her profession, winning numerous hairstyling competitions ranging from the local level to international stages. As an educator, she traveled across the United States teaching cosmetology and mentoring aspiring professionals. She served as National Styles Director for the National Cosmetology Association and was named Educator of the Year. She was honored with the prestigious Ben Templeton Award and appeared in many professional publications.

Doris gave back to her community in many ways. One meaningful example was her involvement in the Look Good, Feel Better program, which provides cosmetology services and support to cancer patients. The program is a coordinated effort between the American Cancer Society and the National Cosmetology Association. She was also a strong advocate for those entering the beauty profession, helping provide educational opportunities and employment for individuals beginning their careers.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her brothers Joe Beaver, Jim Beaver, Jesse “JD” Brown, and Jerry Brown.

In 2006, Doris married James W. Vanhoy, who survives. She is also survived by her son, Phillip Beaver Williams (Marsha); her granddaughter, Caroline Williams; step-son, Brant Vanhoy (Marielle); step-daughters, Julia Turik (Cliff), Amy Rogers; step-grandchildren, Laura Estremera, Caribe Vanhoy, James Castillo (Megan), Jac Castillo (Davina), Jill Hair (Dustin), Johnny Castillo (Belle), and Pierson Rogers; several step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A devoted member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church, Doris lived out her faith daily and shared her love of Christ with others. Her mission field was often her salon chair and the many people who sat under her skilled hands. She deeply loved her family and her work, and she often said that if you do something you love, it will never feel like work.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 21 at Forest Park Presbyterian Church with Pastor Scott Jeffreys officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm.

The family expresses deep gratitude for the special people who provided faithful and loving care to Doris: Arleen, Gidget, Cynthia, Linda, Hilary, and Alicia of Home Instead, and Pat Donaldson. The family is also thankful for the compassionate care provided by Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County.
