Dina Mae Marlowe

Sep 6, 1927 — Jul 23, 2026

Statesville, NC

Dina Mae Cook Marlowe, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and steadfast friend, was born on September 6, 1927, to Walter Cook and Mattie Goodin Cook. She was the fifth of six girls and grew up alongside her sisters Della Duncan (Jim), Adeline Shoemaker (Roy “Peanut”), Maggie Jolly (Odell), Ruby Summers (Dock), and Argell Pennell (Atwell).

She attended school at Central School.

On December 20, 1947, Dina married the love of her life, Carl Marlowe. Together they shared more than five decades of partnership until Carl’s passing on December 6, 2000. They were blessed with one daughter, Sylvia Marlowe. Dina was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents, her siblings, her son-in-law Ricky Harris, and her best friend and sister-in-law, Emma Lee Marlowe.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Sylvia; her grandchildren Shane Harris (Marie) and Shelly Harris (Perry Pruitt); and her great-grandchildren Peyton Harris, Olivia Harris, Haylee Harris, and Gracie Pruitt, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family who were fortunate to call her their own.

A lifelong member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church, Dina was its oldest member and attended faithfully for as long as her health permitted. She was a plain and simple lady who spent her life as a homemaker. She raised a huge garden to share with family and friends, worked hard in the tobacco and cotton fields, and found quiet joy in quilting and working the farm alongside Carl. Those who knew her best will always remember the simple, loving touches that made her home feel like a refuge—especially her unmatched sandwiches and chocolate milk.

Dina was known for never wavering and for always being exactly herself. She moved through the world with a steady grace that made her a treasure to everyone who crossed her path. She was a mother, grandmother, wife, sister, best friend, aunt, and great aunt whose quiet strength and open heart left a lasting mark on all who loved her.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at 3:00 pm at Rocky Hill Baptist Church cemetery with Harry McLain officiating.
