Deward Leroy Kennedy

Deward Leroy Kennedy, 82, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at his home.

Leroy was born on September 8, 1943, in Iredell County to the late Deward Long Kennedy and Willie Mae Lindley Kennedy. He attended Statesville High School and later became the proud owner and operator of Kennedy’s Cleaning Service.

A longtime and devoted member of Northview Church of Christ, Leroy faithfully served as both a deacon and a greeter. His church family held a special place in his heart, and he was deeply committed to serving others.

Through his cleaning service, Leroy formed many meaningful relationships that he truly cherished. He especially treasured his time with his sons and grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy in his life. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time houseboating on Lake Norman with family and friends, creating lasting memories together.

In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosalie Burns (Bill) and Sue Huie (Pete); and two brothers, Jimmy Kennedy (Lena) and John Kennedy.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Kathy Johnson Kennedy; sons, Todd Kennedy (Emily) and Aaron Kennedy (Kim); special consideration of a son, Marty Liles; grandchildren, Austin Kennedy (Kayla), Nicholas Kennedy (Amy), Nathan Kennedy (Aneta). Mallory Kennedy and Madison Kennedy (Tanner); special pets, Teddy, Bo and Lucy; and many nieces and nephews that were a special part of his life.

A service to celebrate Leroy will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 13 at Northview Church of Christ with Minister Cody Poinsett, and special friends, Paul McClanhan and Jeff Davis officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the church.
