Dennis Lee Mitchell

Dennis Lee Mitchell, 72, of Statesville went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 22nd, 2024, surrounded by family and friends after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on April 13, 1951, in Statesville, North Carolina to the late Dorothy Bell Mitchell and Lee Deamer Mitchell.

He was a graduate of North Iredell High School, Mitchell College and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University. Dennis worked 31 years as a banker starting with Northwestern Bank and retired with Wachovia Bank.

After his retirement he assisted his two brothers as an electrical technician and later with Ehret Electric. He was a lifetime member of Hebron Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and served in various other areas of his church. Dennis spent a lot of his spare time fellowshipping with Hebron’s Baptist men. He was very faithful to his Bible study group which is known as “The Boys,” where he would learn as much as he could about God’s word and then shoot pool! Shooting pool was his favorite hobby and he would always perform a special dance with every win.

He was a member of the Cleveland Lions Club for 40 plus years. God and his family were number one in his life. Left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 47 years, Debra Dellinger Mitchell; his sister, Sandra Blalock (David); brother, Steve Mitchell; and sister-in-law, Sheila Mitchell. He is further survived by many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Mitchell.

A service to celebrate the life of Dennis Lee Mitchell will be conducted at 3:00 pm, Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Darren Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.
